In a statement released this week, Ms Jones said she is seeking the continued support and vote of the community for the historic elections.
“With the strong support of the residents and ratepayers of the previous Wellington Local Government Area (LGA), I have continuously served as one of your elected councillors over the past 22 years, during which time I served as deputy mayor for seven years and mayor for eight years,” she said.
“Since the amalgamation of Dubbo and Wellington councils in May 2016, I have been one of your four representatives on the Local Representation Committee, advising the DRC administrator of your issues and concerns and representing you in the allocation of the NSW Government’s $10 million grant to the amalgamated council for projects identified by the community
“Two councillors are to be elected from each ward to make up the 10 councillors to be elected. The mayor and deputy mayor will be elected from the 10 elected councillors. The former Wellington Council area will be represented by two elected councillors.
“The election process this year will be very different to past years and it is important that voters understand the new process to minimise the number of informal votes. To this end I ask you to number every square on the ballot paper for the Wellington Ward in your order of preference.
“With an annual budget of some $214 million, it is essential that our area be well positioned within the new council to ensure that Wellington, it’s surrounding villages and rural areas get a fair representation in the forward works program, new projects and ongoing wider community support and development.
“For this to be achieved I believe your representatives on the new council must be experienced and committed.
“I believe I have demonstrated through my involvement in local government over the past 22 years and my commitment to a range of general community organisations in both Wellington and Dubbo, I have the necessary time, experience, commitment and passion to continue to represent our entire community on the new council and in this respect.
“I again seek your continued support and trust through your number one vote,” Ms Jones said.
