This week I was joined by NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller to announce that Police Officers will have additional protection on the beat with the rollout of body armour vests.

These new vests are yet another initiative to ensure our Police have the protective equipment they need to do their job safely and comfortably.
Our Police face the best and worst of humanity often placing themselves in harm’s way to thwart criminal activity, that is why we must provide them with adequate tools to shield themselves in violent situations.
This initiative complements the rollout of the Active Armed Offender training in providing our officers with equipment and training they need to safely and effectively disrupt, prevent and respond to crime.
Tourism and its major importance to region’s economy
In a recent brochure I distributed across the electorate I highlighted the importance of tourism to our local economy, staff in our local visitor information centres play a critical role in that.
The NSW Government is now offering a program to Visitor Information Centre staff training them in the latest customer service techniques with a focus on the promotion rural and regional NSW.
I’m pleased that Dubbo, Mudgee and Wellington Visitor Information centres are participating in this training.
The program is all about ensuring that the staff are delivering high quality customer service to people either visiting or planning to visit our communities.
Growing tourism in this region is a priority of mine as we know how vital the industry is to our communities.
This training is offered in collaboration with TAFE NSW and is open and free to all visitor information centre staff.
DODGY CHARITIES OUT THERE – WATCH OUT!
This week in Parliament the NSW Liberals and Nationals introduced a bill which will provide greater powers to protect consumers from dodgy charities.
The bill will put consumers first by giving them confidence that when they make a donation it’s being used for the right purposes. We do not want to see hard working people being ripped off by shonky operators.
This state is incredibly generous with around $5 billion every year being donated to registered charities.
The bill proposes amendments to the Charitable Fundraising Act that will allow the government to launch a public inquiry into suspicious fundraising activities.
These proposed changes will not only put consumers first but will also support the thousands of above-board charities that are fundraising legitimately.
NSW GOVERNMENT PROVIDING FISH HABITAT FUNDING
I also announced this week that the NSW Government is providing funding to community groups, councils and individuals to improve fish habitats through the Habitat Action grants program.
This program has been popular in previous years and applications are now open.
