The park, located at the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden, has been designed to include more than 40 play activities and associated facilities.
Dubbo Regional Council director parks and landcare services Ian McAlister said the playspace would deliver the community a fun, challenging and educational playground that was unique in the region and would promote physical activity for all abilities and age groups.
“The nearby proximity of the retirement village, a senior fitness recreation centre has been incorporated into the design. This facility will promote health, fitness and well-being for the elderly, as well as promoting intergenerational participation within the playspace,” Mr McAlister said.
A coffee shop and kiosk has also been included in the design to provide refreshments and a meeting space for groups.
Council has received two grants for the park through the Stronger Communities (Major Projects) Fund. The carpark will get a $1.3 million upgrade, while $245,000 will go towards the playspace.
While the Botanic Garden was already identified as a major attraction within the Orana Region, the Elizabeth Park Adventure Nature-based Playspace would further add to the acclaim of the garden and help drive tourism visitation, Mr McAlister said.
Public tenders will be called for the construction of the playspace.
