Less than one millimetre of rain has been recorded for June. It’s the driest month on the Bureau of Meteorology’s records which date back to 1994.
The driest June so far was recorded in 1994 when the records began. Only 4mm fell during the 30 days.
The dry cold this year is almost the complete opposite to June 2016 when the Bureau of Meteorology recorded 151.6mm of rain.
The previous months have also been dry. In May there was a mere 5.2mm, while the month before only 9.4mm was recorded.
For the first six months of the year a total of 248mm of rain has fallen in Dubbo. It’s below the average of the past 22 years at 293mm.
Similar dry conditions have been seen in Orange and Bathurst.
A severe lack of rain has Orange on track for its driest June since 1972. Just 3.6mm rain has been recorded at the official weather station at Orange Airport this month.
With little rain forecast for the rest of the month it would be the lowest rainfall at the airport since readings were first taken there in 1996.
Bathurst is also on track to record its driest June on record. If the rain stays away for another week it’ll be driver than the previous record in 1972 when only 0.8mm fell.
In the next few months the outlook is much the same. Only minimal rain is forecast in Dubbo.
According to the long term forecast on Accuweather, the next time the city will get more than 1mm in the rain gauge will be mid-July.
Across July 16 and 17, 33mm of rain has been forecast. The next time more than five mm of rain is forecast is almost two weeks later.
