The Roos faithful loved its side’s performance against Mudgee on Saturday but at a certain point it doesn’t become as enjoyable.
It becomes sad.
And disappointing.
This is taking nothing away from the Roos’ performance. The 105-0 win in a match called off nine minutes from time is an incredible effort.
Viliame Turuvua scored seven tries alone, something which had people searching the record books, while the Mudgee Wombats struggled to make a tackle.
While the form of the Wombats is a concern, the biggest worry is that kind of result wasn’t a one-off this season.
It wasn’t even a one-off on the weekend.
Orange Emus defeated the Parkes Boars 101-0 in another lopsided affiar.
Normally, results like Forbes’ 73-7 win over Cowra and the Bathurst Bulldogs’ 53-5 win over Dubbo Rhinos would be talking points but those matches on Saturday are insignificant compared to the two one hundred point smashings.
What to do is not an easy answer. It’s been a question asked for awhile now with teams bouncing between Blowes and the Graincorp competitions while one-sided results are becoming all the more common.
There’s no doubt the Central West Rugby Union committee is looking into and a solution will need to be made soon.
In rugby league, CYMS now sits alone at the top of the ladder after a dominant win in the derby against Macquarie while Forbes fell to defeat at Nyngan.
The Tigers’ win over the defending premiers may come as a shock but it shouldn’t be too surprising as Stewart Mills’ men have improved each week and the victory over Forbes will really make people sit up and take note.
While Nyngan impressed, CYMS just keeps on winning.
Elsewhere, Parkes thumped a struggling Westside while the Wellington Cowboys edged out a Narromine Jets side which remains winless.
On the representative scene, the Western Rams’ journey in the Country Championships came to an end in after a 28-point semi-final loss to Illawarra-South Coast.
In other sporting results, the Dubbo Demons suffered another defeat in Central West AFL while the Dubbo Rams also went down in Waratah League basketball.
It was another huge weekend for local netballers with regular matches on Saturday followed by the annual representative carnival on Sunday.
It was also a huge weekend for local motorsport star Tyler Everingham, who scored his first win in the Australian Formula 4 Championship.
