The feedback comes after volunteers and organisers of the event attended a special screening ahead of the weekend. It is estimated 100 cars filed into the venue for a screening of Hunt of the Wilderpeople.
Dubbo Regional Council youth development officer Jason Yelverton said he wanted everyone involved in preparing the event to enjoy the final product.
“I know from my own experience when you do an event you never get to experience and enjoy it,” he said.
“I thought it was important we gave all of our volunteers, caterers and people who’ve contributed in making this become a reality to be able to come and experience the drive-in.”
Thursday night’s screening doubled as an opportunity for organisers to test the systems and make any final changes ahead of last night’s premiere of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
“We had positive feedback from people regarding the clarity of the picture, and people who used to go to the drive-in were so impressed with the sound quality coming through the car radio,” Jason said.
“It was a really good opportunity for us to test our systems in terms of how we set up our parking and getting an understanding before the crazy starts.”
Jason urges people attending Saturday and Sunday’s screenings to follow direction from traffic controllers. He also advises people to wear practical shoes, pack blankets and bring chairs for those wishing to sit outside their vehicle.
“People really need to wear some decent shoes because after 30 years there's a lot of burs and stuff like that, so ballet flats aren’t going to cut it,” Jason said.
“The other thing too is for people to bring a blanket – it was quite cool out here on Thursday so make sure you rug up.”
Jason reminds movie-goers to show volunteers respect and patience.
“We’re all doing the best we can, none of us have ever run a drive-in before but we’re doing our best to make this an enjoyable night for everybody.”
