Police from Orana Local Area Command (LAC) are investigating after an amount of cash and electronic equipment was taken from the special education room at South Dubbo Public School at the weekend.
In a second incident, Narromine Public School’s canteen was broken into, with food and equipment damaged.
“When people break into these places, they cause damage getting in which needs to be repaired,” Inspector Dan Skelly said.
“We appeal to anyone that may have some information, that may have seen something suspicious around those schools, or know someone that may have been involved, to report it. We treat all our information as confidential.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Education did not elaborate on what equipment had been taken.
But they echoed Inspector Skelly’s sentiments.
“It is always disappointing to students and staff when there is damage or loss from their school,” the spokesperson said.
“While items can be replaced, there is still an impact on trust of students and staff as well as on members of the community who are proud of their school and contribute to schools’ resources.
“Members of the community are encouraged to keep an eye on schools outside school-hours and report anything suspicious to police. In the past, reports of suspicious activity, even small pieces of information, have proved helpful in preventing problems and apprehending offenders.”
Police are also investigating a number of other incidents across the region.
