They were part of the One Billion Rising campaign, which sees people around the world dance in honour of the estimated one billion women and girls who will be beaten or raped during their lifetime.
Dubbo last saw the campaign in 2014. Melanie Siegel was a participant back then, and this year decided to organise another.
“We just want to start that conversation … and if we just touch one person today that is experiencing violence, and feels that they’ve taken inspiration to speak out today, fantastic,” she said.
“Dancing takes up space – as you can see – it gets in your face, it’s loud … it’s colourful, it’s bright and it’s a great way to express a message because it’s a universal language.
“Dubbo is just a little dot on the big map of one billion people who have rose around the world, dancing to … break the chain of silence that violence against women is unacceptable.”
