Firefighters and aircraft are working to keep the fire on the western side of the Cudgegong River.
Crews worked to strengthen containment lines on the southern and eastern edges of the fire and crews were patrolling to extinguish hot spots.
The fire had burnt out more than 2740 hectares as of Wednesday afternoon.
A more serious threat was emerging at a fire at Gowan, north-west of Bathurst, which was declared a ‘bushfire emergency’.
