The master cake decorator has created a magnificent tribute to mark the milestone of 25 years since the first Parkes Elvis Festival.
Kath said she got the job from Robie Porter (Rob. E.G) but at the time didn’t know who he was.
“I made and decorated a cake to celebrate 101 years of the name changing of Parkes,” Kath said.
“We cut the cake at a council meeting and afterward a man came up to me and said ‘it’s the 25th anniversary of the Elvis Festival in January and you have to do the cake’.”
Kath said she is very pleased to be given the honour of designing and making the cake.
“It’s not often I get to do work like this,” she said.
“I am very proud of it.”
Kath has donated the cake to the Elvis Festival.
“It’s my form of volunteering and I can do it from home,” she said.
Kath also makes and donates the Renewal of Vows cake.
The hexagonal fruit cake features Elvis performing on top of a spinning vinyl record.
“The record has a bit of the history of the festival written on it starting from the outside and spiraling in, just like a record is played,” Kath said.
There are six different festival inspired themes on the sides of the cake including Elvis at the Trots, Renewal of Vows, Elvis Express, Wall of Fame, the Street Parade and the Gospel Service.
Each plaque, created in exquisite detail, takes Kath a couple of days to make.
“If I’m not happy, I’ll do it again,” she said.
Surrounding the main cake are six square mud cakes featuring past Elvis Festival themes.
The cake will be cut at the special 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner tomorrow night at the Parkes Leagues Club.
MC Greg Page will take guests on a stroll down memory lane looking back at the festival’s history.
Legendary Elvis tribute artist Mark Andrew will tell the story of Elvis Presley’s life through song, backed by the very popular Elvis In Concert Band.
