About 325 hampers carrying items together totalling about $22,000 will be distributed this week to people doing in tough.
St Brigid’s Catholic Parish and the St Vincent de Paul Society have once again pulled together to organise a Christmas hamper appeal.
Dubbo’s Catholic schools, a number of businesses and parishioners have donated the hampers brimming with treats that are beyond the reach of some households at any time of the year.
Christmas hamper appeal coordinators Dan Sullivan and Carole O’Connor expressed their appreciation to the :many hundreds of people” who had contributed to the mission.
Mr Sullivan reported the first collection of hampers - which altogether had a value of about $22,000 - had started.
A number of groups had already picked up the gifts for clients.
He and St Brigid’s assistant parish priest Fr Joshy Kaithakulangara were seeing to some final touches on Monday.
During this week parishioners will be delivering the gifts with the help of students from St John’s College.
Mr Sullivan said the “excitement and joy of hundreds of people receiving a gift at Christmas time” was memorable.
“We receive many thank yous for the hampers,” Mr Sullivan said.
