The mayor of Narromine Shire, he made a last-minute decision not to run in Saturday’s election as he believes he has spent enough time on council.
Cr McAnally said he was sad to leave council but felt after 12 years, three as deputy mayor and six as mayor, it was time to go.
He is proud of his and the council’s accomplishments in the last five years.
“The last four or five years would have to be a highlight. To go through fit for the future, with all the changing conditions and moving goalposts and to come out the other side in condition and not to have amalgamated is good,” he said.
The shire was originally targeted for a merger, but survived to stand alone.
