Western Plains Regional Council notified residents of the incident on Tuesday afternoon, warning of the potential for low water pressure for residents and businesses in the area bounded by Wheelers Lane, Myall Street, Fitzroy Street and Goode Street.
Council’s works and services manager Ian Bailey said staff had repaired the burst main by ten o’clock on Tuesday evening, with crews working into the early hours of Wednesday morning to repair the road pavement.
“The crews did really good work,” Mr Bailey said.
“The other thing was the access to Tradelink and Kennards, there’s actually a slip-lane into those businesses that we’ve been able to keep open.”
Southbound lanes of Wheelers Lane will remain closed overnight as council staff continue to monitor the condition of the road surface.
Another inspection will be carried out on Thursday morning, with concerns the burst main and wet weather may necessitate further repairs to the road surface.
“We’re just concerned that if reopen it we may have to close if again,” Mr Bailey said.
“We may have to keep it closed and do some repairs when the weather’s better next week, or after we check it tomorrow we might reopen one lane.”
