Now he is gearing up to compete at the 2016 Para-Clay Target Shooting International Grand Prix in Italy in October, where he will pit himself against other wheelchair athletes for the first time.
"To be able to compete against people of my ability and see how I compare on the international stage is an awesome goal,” Brydon said.
The sport is modelled off the Olympic trap discipline, with athletes using a shotgun to hit clays shot into the sky by machines on the ground.
It's a sport Brydon is excelling at despite his limitations.
The T5 paraplegic has been in a wheelchair for five years after a motorcycle accident left him paralysed from the chest down. He has no balance, and straps himself into his wheelchair to shoot.
"The hard part is shooting the angles,” Brydon said.
“The hardest shot in Olympic Trap is the 45 degree angle so you've got to swing hard at it."
One day Brydon dreams of representing Australia, but until para-clay is included in the Para-Olympics, his sights are set on Italy.
He is calling for donations to help cover his travel, accommodation and event fees, estimated at about $6000.
