About 2.30pm emergency services were called to an accident between two vehicles on the Newell Highway, just south of North Terramungamine Road.
“It appears at this stage that one car was entering the highway from a rest stop, and as they’re entering the road they’ve hit the side of the four wheeled drive as it’s passed,” Orana local area command Inspector Dan Skelly said.
“The car rolled a number of times and ended up on it’s side in the middle of the road.”
The two occupants of the four-wheeled drive were trapped and had to be freed by rescue units, Inspector Skelly said.
The passenger and the driver were conveyed to Dubbo Hospital with only minor injuries.
“It was quite a horrific scene on arrival. It was miraculous they didn’t have more serious injuries,” he said.
The Inspector said he assumed the four-wheeled drive was going the 110 kilometre speed limit.
The road was closed in both directions for about an hour and a half, and diversions put in place.
That accident was followed by a second incident in front of Dubbo City Toyota.
A car had a collision with another vehicle which left it wedged against the fence of Dubbo City Toyota, Inspector Skelly said.
The driver was left trapped and had to be rescued from the car. They were conveyed to Dubbo Hospital with minor injuries.
