KATE STEWART
Water, ice, health care, education and the NBN.
Water is, by far and away, our biggest challenge. And problems exist throughout our electorate.
I think the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement was a good first step; it shows we can reach an agreement. But more needs to be done.
Queensland must come to an agreement with the rest of the Federation. And a National Water Strategy should address the needs and responsibilities of all.
Ice is a scourge. We must act now to get on top of the problem. Practical action means providing detox, treatment and rehabilitation opportunities for addicts. It also means providing support for victims and families.
The biggest threat we have is the National Party's position on health. They've already voted to take $57 billion out of our hospitals; and they want to take even more out of Medicare.
Educating communities is the best first step we can make to ensuring a productive and proud community. #thefullGonski provides every child with the opportunity to contribute to their community; and TAFE and universities extend that chance in life.
The NBN will be looked upon as our greatest national infrastructure project.
If you put it back in Labor's hands you will see an improvement in the quality of service. If you leave it in the hands of the Nationals you will remain divided; street against street as one has fibre to the node and the other fibre to the premises.
- The Daily Liberal offered each of the five candidates for the seat of Parkes the opportunity to answer the questions put forward to them. Each candidate was offered the same amount of editorial space in which to reply to each particular topic.
