Ms Hockley, who works at a pharmacy during the day and at the Macquarie Inn during the night, is one of three entrants in this year's Dubbo Showgirl.
"It was just something that I hadn't done before and it was something that some of my friends suggested to me and I thought I'd give it a shot," she said.
"I would just like to promote the Dubbo show. Dubbo puts on one of the best shows in the region."
Ms Hockley would know, having shown poultry at a number of recent events.
"In the last few months I've been to Gulgong Show, Dunedoo, Mendooran, Gilgandra, Coonamble and Gunnedah," she said.
"I wouldn't say it puts me at an advantage, but I think it helps give me experience."
Ms Hockley believed anyone considering vying for showgirl should give it a go
"I've had a fantastic time. It's not the beauty pageant people think it is, it's actually about your opinions and what you have to say," she said.
"It's four days of your life and you'll have one of the best experiences and make some friends for life."
The presentation and announcement of the 2016 Dubbo Showgirl will be made April 29, prior to the show.
