Alison van der Linden is taking part in the CARE Australia Walk in Her Shoes challenge, and hopes to raise about $500 for women and girls living in poverty by simply "get[ting] my trainers on and going for a walk".
"Women and girls in undeveloped countries walk on average six kilometres a day just to get bare necessities like food, water and firewood," Ms van der Linden.
"By walking 25 kilometres over a week I'll be raising money towards that plight to help those women and children go to school or start their own business... supporting their families but without walking so far everyday."
CARE Australia focuses on working with women and girls because they tend to transfer improvements in their own lives to their children, families and communities.
The week-long challenge kicked off on International Women's Day on Tuesday.
Ms van der Linden aims to walk five kilometres everyday for the rest of the week, and is already about halfway towards her $500 fundraising target.
She is urging other people to get on board.
"I saw it on Facebook. It was just something that kind of jumped out at me and I thought I can do that," Ms van der Linden said.
"I can walk 25 kilometres in a week, no problems, and if I can raise some money that would be even better."
