Council has put local residents on notice there would be "drama aplenty" but they should not be alarmed by what is an emergency exercise being run to test the response of local emergency service providers.
It would take place from 6pm on Monday, March 7.
The scenario would be an aircraft-declared emergency at the Cobar airport where the aircraft tried to land, slid off the end of the runway and broke into two separate pieces in a grassy field.
A spokesperson for Cobar Shire Council said the exercise was a chance to test the Airport Emergency Plan and for all agencies involved to test their own plans, staff training and equipment.
The field exercise was required to be held at least every two years in line with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) legislative requirements.
The airport would remain open during the exercise and normal airport operations, including passenger services, would not be affected, the council spokesperson said.
