It was a fun evening with members and guests enjoying a great meal, the presentations of championship awards and a secret Santa.
Paul Roe also entertained the assembly with his annual tribute song to the club and members, which was very witty and well received.
The presentations were made after dinner with firstly Tom Toohey from Tom Toohey Financial Planning, the sponsor of our monthly tournaments, presenting trophies and prizes to the winners and runners-up.
These were Mark Toomey (men's winner), Robyn Rawlinson (ladies winner), Mick McDonagh(men's runner-up) and Gladys Thornbury (ladies runner-up).
Club President Ken Bailey then presented the Club Championship awards for events held throughout the year.
The results were: men's singles - winner Mark Toomey, runner-up Mick McDonagh.
Ladies doubles - winners Gladys Thornbury and Pippa Higgins-Earl, runners-up Robyn Rawlinson and Anne Barwick.
Mens doubles - winners Mark Toomey and Tom Barclay, runners-up Mick McDonagh and Brian Gibbons.
Veterans Mixed Doubles - winners Mick McDonagh and Robyn Rawlinson, runners-up Tom Barclay and Pippa Higgins-Earl.
Mixed Doubles - winners Mark Toomey and Anne Barwick, runners-up - Mick McDonagh and Robyn Rawlinson.
A special award was presented to Mick McDonagh for Club Person of the Year. Mick is a long-time club member who contributes weekly to the running of the club ensuring the courts are prepared for play, and maintaining the grounds, including this year the repainting of the outdoor tables and benches. As club captain, each week he ensures there are no 'courts off' during social tennis and that all players get a fair share of games.
Congratulations to all competitors who played throughout the year both in social and competitive games.
Due to the already hot weather we will be changing from Sunday afternoon tennis to Saturday night tennis a week earlier than usual. Next Saturday, November 28, will be the first night tennis for the summer months with play starting at 6pm.
Club members will be attending the next New Residents night this Thursday, November 26, at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
