TARONGA Western Plains Zoo will be a hive of activity on Sunday when the annual Dubbo Stampede running festival is held at the world famous landmark.
A total of $8500 in prizemoney will be up for grabs in the event, with the winner of the Rhino Ramble marathon to pocket a cool $1000.
While the 42.2km event is there for the hardened runner there will be plenty on offer for everyone, with the 5.5km Dingo Dash, the 10km Cheetah Chase and the 21.1km Zebra Zoom also options for the runners.
With a large number of runners and walkers expected to take part, organisers will conduct a staggered start of the events across four different time slots.
The marathon runners will be first to leave the start point at 7am, with competitors expected to have completed the course within a six-hour timeframe.
The Dingo Dash competitors will be next to leave at 7.30pm while the Zebra Zoom runners will commence their journey at 7.45am and the Cheetah Chase commences at 8.15am.
Meanwhile, for those that have missed registering for the Stampede there is always the weekly Dubbo Parkrun event on Saturday morning.
The free event is held along the banks of the Macquarie River each Saturday from 8am, although those that take part are asked to be at the Sandy Beach starting point at 7.45am.
Registration is easy and can be done by visiting www.parkrun.com.au and every registered runner who brings their unique barcode will be able to get a time taken for the 5km course every time they are involved.
Organisers are always searching for volunteers to help them with the various jobs that are needed to ensure Parkrun runs smoothly, so if you're interested speak with one of the organisers or visit the website.
