Apparently there is a lot when it comes to the Dubbo CBD.
We note with interest that Dubbo City Councillors have voted in favour of holding a workshop to discuss a new name for Dubbo's Central Business District, or the Dubbo CBD as it is more commonly known.
Councillors say they are looking for something vibrant, a name that gives the street a feeling that it is a destination, rather than just a place to shop or live.
Ideas such as Macquarie Boulevard and Harmony Boulevard have been tossed up by keen residents so far but we are curious to see what the final name ends up as.
If the CBD's name is changed officially, will it actually be called by the new name by residents, or will it take years to change.
The new name needs to be something that rolls off the tongue so people actually use it, rather than reverting back to the CBD because that's just what it is known as and that's what they have grown up calling it.
We also have to wonder if a rebrand will help the CBD along?
While it would sound lovely to go for a stroll along Macquarie Boulevard and have a look at the shops, how will just changing the name improve the image of the CBD?
We agree when it is said this is only the tip of a very large iceberg when it comes to repairing the CBD.
But, it is nothing that can't be fixed.
The CBD is still a great place to live and shop, it just needs something to make it attractive to more people and to return it back to it's former glory of the old days.
