Mr Robertson, who will become Mid West Amputee Association president in June, revealed following an operation in November 2014 to amputate below the left knee, he lost confidence, felt nervous and wasn't sure where to turn.
While his wife and family offered amazing support, Mr Robertson felt he needed to talk to people who had experienced what he had, which is how he came in contact with the Mid West Amputee Association.
"The likes of myself really need it and the group can offer great benefit," Mr Roberston said.
"People say they have a lot of support with family, which is true, but its been great talking to other amputees.
"It's good to share your story and hear other stories, it helps deal with things."
The Mid West Amputee Association currently has about 20 members who are based in several locations such as Dubbo, Mudgee, Orange and Bathurst.
Mr Robertson is hoping an increasing awareness of the group will lead to more members.
"We have a monthly meeting in Orange, but if we have enough members in other areas we would be open to rotating the location of the meetings," Mr Roberston said.
"The meeting is just a place for us to get together and have a chat, offer support for each other and try to answer any questions anyone might have.
"We get information and brochures about what is happening for amputees so we can make sure everyone is up to date."
Mr Robertson encourages anyone who wants more information about the Mid West Amputee Association to contact him on 0421 559 981 or hshdrobertson@gmail.com
