It is a family affair at Hudson’s circus, which has its grand opening in Dubbo on Wednesday.
Director and ring master Shane Lennon is a fifth-generation circus performer, while wife Nancy Lee trained in contemporary theatre in Montreal, the home of global sensation Cirque du Soleil.
Together they have created a show that fuses “traditional circus with contemporary circus” and will “tick all the boxes”.
Advertised as “Australia’s favourite animal circus”, the show features 18 animals from around the world, including four Australian camels and two zebra foals.
The animals will be joined by 16 highly-trained performers, including aerial artists, clowns, rope spinning, whip cracking, and a flying trapeze troupe.
The show also features former world record holder, Ashley Brophy, on the tightrope.
For one night only, the 2009 Australia’s Got Talent finalist will take to the 18 metre high wire at 6 pm, without a safety harness or balance pole, in a feat he performs “once in a blue moon”.
“When I’m up on that wire, that’s living,” he said.
While it is the first time Hudson’s Circus has been to Dubbo, Shane Lennon first performed here with the family circus, Lennon Bro’s, in 1984. He said he loves coming back.
“Everyone is very friendly and the location here is brilliant,” he said.
Hudson’s Circus is at Dubbo for two weeks, with the finale on Sunday, March 15, at 10.30 am.
Tickets can be booked by calling 0458 HUDSON, online at www.hudsonscircus.com.au or from the Box Office, which opens an hour before each show.
