RSL-Colts will be aiming to keep the pressure on competition leaders Newtown when they take on Macquarie at No. 2 Oval today.
Two-day cricket returns to the Whitney Cup and Colts will be out to record a strong win in order to keep up with, or even leapfrog, the Tigers.
Colts are the form team in the competition, having won six straight matches, while Macquarie suffered their first loss in four rounds when they went down to Rugby last weekend.
Spin bowling will again be a huge factor in the match with Colts' slow bowlers taking all 10 wickets in last week's win over Newtown.
Greg Buckley, Wes Giddings and Nathan Jones have combined time and time again to tie down opposition batting lineups and Macquarie's patience will be severely tested today.
The spinning trio have thrived on the early work done by Tim Cox, with Colts' Australian Country representative going at just over two runs an over this season, taking 18 wickets in the process.
The Blues will again look to Ed Haylock to start their batting off well, with the opener so often providing the platform for the likes of Jason Green, Keiran Brien and Justin Gavin.
The battle between Macquarie's middle order batsmen and the Colts spinners may well go a long way to deciding the match.
In today's other match, Newtown will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the ladder when they clash with CYMS.
Today's match at No. 1 Oval sees the competition's top side against the bottom but CYMS have shown they can mix it with the best when their best players are available.
The Cougars do welcome back captain Ben O'Donnell and Ben Strachan but the whole side will have to be at the top of their game if they are to get past the Tigers, led again by Skinner brothers Mat and Steve.
After going down to Colts by just one wicket last week and having seen their lead at the top cut to less than one point, Newtown will be fired up for today's clash.
The Tigers come into the match having lost two in a row and will be without opening bowler Nick Cushan for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery but with the likes of Dan Holland, Wayne Dunlop, Dan French and Marty Jeffrey they have the kind of depth most teams envy.
All matches today begin at 1pm.
