Emergency services were called to Elong Elong about 10am Wednesday following reports a car had rolled over and at least one occupant was trapped.
Emergency services arrived to find a car had left the road and hit a tree about 45km east of Dubbo.
They worked to free the patient, who had suffered serious facial injuries.
The patient was treated by paramedics at the scene then flown by Ambulance Rescue Helicopter to Orange Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police directed traffic through the scene and the highway is now understood to have re-opened.
