Jaspal Bansal made 39 but it was McAlister who starred, finishing not out on 113 as CYMS declared at 4-237.
With 30 overs left in the day the Cougars chased wickets to gain more points and they took three before the Blues finished at 3-73.

Rugby made sure they kept the pressure on the Cougars at the top of the ladder after scraping past Colts in a tight match at John McGrath 1.
Following Colts day one total of 144 Rugby were made to work hard in the run chase before passing the total with one wicket in hand.
Colts took 5-14 at one stage to pile the pressure on the Rugby tail but Mitch Smith (15 not out) got his side home after Brett Paul had earlier made 41.
Geoff Wheeler and John Woodbridge took three wickets each for Colts, who finished the day at 5-104 in their second innings after Rugby were all out for 151.

Newtown's day one total of 210 proved too much for Souths at Lady Cutler 4 with the Hornets falling short by 33 runs.
Jason Blackford made 76 for Souths but it was the only meaningful innings as Dave Brown (3-22), Kel Blackett (2-18), Craig Edenborough (2-26) and Ben Knaggs (2-38) got Newtown across the line.
The win was Newtown's first for the season.
