Earlier this week the NSW government announced they would fund a cycleway path connecting Talbragar and Wingewarra streets.
Raymond Wheeler of Darrell Wheeler Cycles said the announcement is a plus for Dubbo cyclists.
"We are heading in the right direction, but there's still the opportunity to improve Dubbo's cycling infrastructure," he said.
"It's very positive, I'm very much in favour of anything to make Dubbo a more cycling friendly city."
Kathy Furney of Dubbo BUG (Bicycle User Group) said Dubbo City Council have already been working towards a cycle-friendly area, but added facilities are welcomed.
"If they've got the money to do that then that's fantastic," she said.
"The council have been proactive in establishing cycleways, but any cycleways are beneficial to Dubbo because there are that many people riding bikes at the moment.
"Any infrastructure for cycling is fantastic, we always need more."
Troy Grant MP said the $110,000 plan is one of seven projects to promote walking and cycling across the state.
"This is good news for our local community and will encourage and enable more people to walk and ride, contributing to a more active, healthy community," he said.
"Better walking and cycling connections also help to reduce congestion on our roads and ease pressure on public transport."
As an avid cyclist Mr Wheeler is personally excited for the project to begin: "I'm looking forward to seeing cyclists make the most of this new facility."
