The inaugural Make-A Wish Dubbo Fashion Parade and Afternoon Tea, held at the Dubbo Baptist Church, aimed to give women a chance to relax, while also raising money for the charity.
Make-A-Wish’s volunteer care co-ordinator Lyn Allen said she was astounded at the number of ladies who attended.
“We were overwhelmed. In the end we had over 170 people and raised over $5000,” Ms Allen said.
“It’s the best we’ve ever done with any fundraising event. We were overwhelmed with the generosity. What a beautiful, beautiful community.”
Money raised from the afternoon tea will go towards granting the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions, such as allowing a Dubbo boy to swim with the dolphins on the Gold Coast.
“We volunteer because Make-A-Wish is a foundation that makes a difference in the local community, and we see the tangible results of our work in the happy faces of our wish children and families,” Ms Allen said.
She said local businesses also showed great support for the fundraiser.
“The business houses of Dubbo were wonderful. We had more than 50 prizes donated for the Star Board and 11 items raffled on the day.
Along with the high tea, the afternoon included free hand massages from the Belle Vie staff, entertainment by Paul McMillan and a fashion parade showcasing designs from Wendi Leigh.
Local model Judy Nestor said the event was absolutely fabulous.
“There were some great people, four other great models and great clothes,” Ms Nestor said.
Ms Allen said she was so proud of the 16 volunteers who worked so hard to make the event a success.
The winter raffle was drawn on the day with Sue Rootes winning the outdoor gas heater and Donna Ledsham taking home the outdoor patio setting.
