Yesterday saw more than 250 entrants from throughout NSW and interstate take place in the sporting event at Sappa Bulga, 25 kilometres south of Dubbo, with competitors ranging from the age of nine through to 90.
Western Plains Orienteering Club president Dale Wallace has been competing in the events for the past six years.
"It's a family-friendly sport," Mr Wallace said.
"We've only got a small club of 10 members out here but there are so many individuals from the coast and other parts of the country."
Saturday saw the orienteering enthusiasts venture out to Brummagen Creek near Narromine, with yesterday and today's events at Sappa Bulga.
Mr Wallace said this was the third time an orienteering event had taken place at Dubbo, with same State League competition taking place in the area in 2010.
"In 2007, the Orienteering Junior World Championships were actually held in Dubbo," Mr Wallace said.
"It's just such a great area out here, and we've been really lucky with the weather."
Canberra-born David Shepherd completed the Men's 10 kilometre course in 77 minutes, taking home the winning trophy.
The 36-year-old said he was pleased with his results and happy to be out in the country for the weekend.

State League Orienteering’s oldest competitor, Hermann Wehner, celebrated his 90th birthday by competing in the Men’s 80 category event yesterday.
Mr Wehner said he had been involved in the sport since 1972 and was thoroughly enjoying his time in Dubbo.
Originally from Canberra, the retired engineer said he had traveled out the central west for many work events in the past for the Canberra Observatory.
“Since there is no one else to compete against me in my age division, I was entered in the men’s 80-year-old section.”
Mr Wehner said he enjoyed himself in the event, but was happy to sit back with a cup of tea and cake for the rest of the day.
