Owner of Flowers by Jennifer, Jennifer Bjorksten (pictured) prepares for the busy time of year by ordering 500 per cent more flowers than a usual weekday and scheduling extra staff for her store and couriers to deliver orders.
"It is absolute madness and mayhem," she said.
Thousands of flowers pass through the Macquarie Street store including traditional roses, gerberas and mixed bouquets, all of which are Valentine's Day favourites with customers.
"Roses are very popular, there are the long stemmed and different colours," Ms Bjorksten said. "There is a range of amounts people spend but because it is Valentine's Day the guys will try and be quite generous."
But it is not just men shelling out money on special Valentine's Day gifts for their partners but also women.
"The ladies do get flowers for the guys," Ms Bjorksten said.
Teddies and man packs, that include a teddy, chocolates and an alcoholic drink, are also a popular gift to male partners.
Men who were stuck on what to get their partner were given some Valentine's Day flower advice by Ms Bjorksten.
"A single rose is elegant and very romantic but maybe half a dozen roses for impact," she said.
To preserve your Valentine's Day bouquet for as long as possible Ms Bjorksten advised that flowers have their stems cut and carefully put in cold or iced water.
