Back in 2011 the McDonald family from Cowra kindly donated a pup to the Men Of League to be auctioned at a fundraiser for Harley's family.
Dubbo CYMS stalwart and greyhound owner John Cook bought the pup for a syndicate and the result was Dana Harley.
The group that races the Bit Chili x Dana Sammy dog, known as the Harley's Our Hero syndicate, comprises of Cook and his son Martin, as well as Beau Darcy, Cameron Porter, Graham Lyon, Michael Quade, Mick O'Neill, Norm O'Neill, Paul Morris, Rob Powyer, Ross Harris and Stuart Weir.
Adding to the story is the fact that Harley's grandfather Greg McAlister trains the dog.
Today Dana Harley will start from box six in the www.bettowintips.com Stakes over the 516m journey.
While each of the dog's four victories to date have come over shorter distances, Dana Harley has been competitive over the middle distance journey, including a second placing behind Crackin Sort at Bathurst two runs back.
Early markets rate Dana Harley a $13.00 chance for today's event, which will be the first time the dog has raced at Dawson Park.
In total 10 races are scheduled for today's meeting, including six heats of the PK's Bakery Series.
Racing will get under way at 2.39pm while the last event is scheduled to be run at 5.32pm.
