The city received 11.2 millimetres (mm) of rain to 9am yesterday, after three weeks without a drop.
Dubbo received a total of 0.4mm of rain in April, all of it falling in the 24-hour period to 9am April 22.
Monday night’s rain is the first for the city this May.
In the region defined by the bureau as central west, Dubbo scored more rain than most of its neighbours.
Exceptions included Coonabarabran with 23mm, Tooraweenah 12mm and Dunedoo 13mm. But many central west communities did not wake up to puddles yesterday.
Nyngan received 4mm, Trangie 3.8mm, Tullamore 5.6mm, Condobolin 10mm, Forbes 8.2mm, Parkes 4.2mm, Peak Hill 4.2mm, Yeoval 3.6mm, Wellington 5.2mm and Mudgee 8mm.
Rain eluded some far west towns and barely touched others.
Bourke received 0.6mm, Louth 2mm and Cobar 3.4mm.
Broken Hill missed out altogether. Communities marginally closer to the coast in the far west region fared better, including Lightning Ridge 8mm, Walgett 7.4mm and Coonamble 5.4mm.
The bureau’s seven-day forecast for Dubbo as of yesterday did not give rise to hope of more substantial rain for paddocks, gardens and lawns.
Bureau predictions include a 70 per cent chance of up to 5mm falling today (15/5) , a 90 per cent chance of the same tomorrow (16/5) and 60 per cent chance next Monday.
