SHE may have already won four races in her time, but it was Hypo Magic’s first success at TAB level when she took out the Safe Zone Pest Control Stakes (400m) at Dawson Park yesterday.
Described as the “best dog” by owner Robert Pryor, Hypo Magic finished first in the third race of the day, narrowly beating favourite Goodsey Magic from Geurie in a time of 23.23.
The two-year-old last had a win at Gunnedah (February 3) and competed at Dawson Park only once before, losing to Goodsey Magic two weeks ago.
“This is her fourth race she’s won and is the best dog I’ve ever owned,” Pryor said.
“I bought her as a pup when she was just a day old from Steve Langsbury two years ago ... she’s the only dog I have at the moment.”
Trained by Kevin Sills, Hypo Magic was well in the market at $5.20 and did enough to reward her supporters.
“Somebody obviously backed her and had faith she’d win, and sure enough she did,” Pryor said.
Sills also has five other dogs in the kennel and is working hard to get a few more TAB wins out of them.
Pryor is $540 richer as a result of the win, which he is hoping to double at Hypo Magic’s next race at Tamworth on Saturday.
Race favourite Goodsey Magic came a close second, although scoring a win only a fortnight ago.
At the time trainer Daniel Foley admitted Goodesy Magic had the ability but couldn’t handle the turns at Dubbo and tended to go wide, which cost him again yesterday.
Dubbo-bred Arabian Atom finished third, his last Dawson Park win not since January 16 where he finished with a time of 23.09.
