The man appeared in Dubbo Local Court on four charges of having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and four charges of indecently assaulting a person under the age of 16.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied for the non-publication order in accordance with legislation protecting children.
Magistrate Eckhold said nothing could be reported that would identify the defendant, the alleged child victims or witnesses.
Legal Aid asked for a lengthy adjournment to allow time for the man to be assessed by a forensic psychologist.
The DPP did not oppose the application.
All charges were adjourned to March 6. Bail was continued.
