Whitney Cup first grade third placed CYMS are probably in the worst situation being all out for 103 against the defending first grade premiers Rugby 0-9.
This was a game CYMS wanted to do well in to
protect their current third place on the competition ladder.
Newtown’s hopes of the claiming the third and final spot for the finals (behind Rugby and RSL-Colts) will depend on their bowlers against Souths at No.2 Oval.
Newtown posted 164 in their first innings and Souths were 1-14 in reply.
RSL-Colts have the ability to build a big score against Macquarie in the remaining overs left to bat out next Saturday when all three games resume.
Stumps were pulled with Colts 2-109 from 39 overs against Macquarie - the Blues, like Newtown, in a must win situation.
Dubbo Cricket board member Glenn Shepherd said it will be interesting to see what transpires when the three games resume next week.
“Because of the rain Saturday afternoon, the clubs will share the overs - from those available for play on Saturday, plus the 75 overs on day two next Saturday,” he said.
This means that the 39 used by Colts, plus 75 will be 114 in total - 57 overs each.
Colts next week will bat a further 18 overs before Macquarie get a crack.
There is a different scenario in the CYMS-Rugby match with CYMS having been dismissed, Rugby still have the full 75 overs next week to chase down the
103 needed for a first innings win.
Meanwhile, the McDonald’s Megahit Twenty20 series continued Friday night after a round was missed because of the state of the outfield at No.1 Oval.
According to Glenn Shepherd the January 11 round 6 game between Australian Poker League and Garden Hotel will be played soon as possible as a double header to another game.
On Friday night McGrath Foundation defeated Christie’s Crackerjacks - score page 27.
