MAKE no mistake, the Dubbo RSL Ducks are leaving no stone unturned to be at their best for the upcoming 50th annual Western Districts Carnival on February 10.
Under the cloak of darkness, the Ducks made their way to the Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre Sunday morning for time trials as training steps up another gear for the big day - which will be held at the same venue.
Opposition teams for the Ducks will not be impressed as to what these fine local gentlemen and women get up to do in their bid to be the best in the west. But all's fair.
With the Ducks restricted to their regular outings in the 25m RSL pool they couldn't afford to miss an opportunity for time trials and away they went.
The gun swimmer was the ageless Pat Spalding at .00 in the 50m race three. Continuing the tradition, in recent times Pat's nephew, Luke, swam the same time and also another Duck, Brent Ryan, got down to .02.
The Colonel was just one of many who enjoyed the facilities at the city pool - the water was sparkling and cool and it was a pleasure to be there. I'm sure our visitors will feel the same way on February 10.
To the results, Pat Spalding won the 50m freestyle from Brent Ryan and Andrew Schloeffel; and Tom Gray was at his best in the 100m freestyle, taking the first place cheque in front of John Mclean and Glenn Swane.
There was also a 30m freestyle on offer and after Greg Salmon and The Colonel broke, the gate was left open for Tom Gray to again prevail, this time Josh Bird and Harry Hart filled the minor placings.
In the swimming field we welcomed Jacob Pearce, members of the Tati family and Roger Mackay while the lucky number winners were Henry Taylor, Ian Henderson, Tom Gray and Reggie Ferguson.
We would however like to send out an SOS to a few of our old friends - Peter and Jane Schubert; Penny Single; Debbie Norris; Debby Wells and Leonie Williams.
We would love to see you back in the pool and bolster our chances at our approaching carnival.
