Lillyann Mason-Spice picked up an award at Brumbies presentation

Mason-Spice's first season with the Brumbies after moving from the NSW Waratahs may have been short lived due to injury but her impression on the side and coaching staff was felt.

The Dubbo Roolettes' star outside back was pretty pleased with her award after the limited opportunities.

"I'm pretty stoked about it," she said.

"It's a good achievement going there and only getting the two games in before getting injured.

"To get my name out there within the two games is a good thing."

ACT Brumbies head coach Dan Hawkes told the club's website he was impressed by the youngster's performances this season.

"With Maso [Mason-Spice] we had the pleasure of watching a star in the making and I believe this year was just the beginning for her," he said.

Mason-Spice was also full of praise for the Brumbies coach who mentored the side to finish third in the Super W competition.

"Hawkey is quite a young coach," he said.

"But he knows what he is doing.

"He is always there for the girls."

After the Dubbo Roolettes missed out playing the Westfund Ferguson Cup finals series due to COVID and finished runners-up to Bathurst, Mason-Spice admitted she could be back to have another shot at the title.

"I'm possibly tossing up Dubbo or Canberra at the moment," she said.

"Then the next stage would be Wallaroos if I want to put my head down and keep working for that or venture off."

Narromine Gorillas backrower Bec Smyth took out the night's top honour being named the Helen Taylor Players' Player of the Year award.

While Mason-Spice is a star on the rise at the Brumbies, Smyth proved her veteran status within the squad couldn't stop her from being a standout.

Smyth told Brumbies media she was honoured to receive the award from members of her team.

"I'm really proud to have been recognised by my teammates with this award," she said.

"Joining the Brumbies last year, I didn't know what to expect but I've really enjoyed it, especially with this group of girls.

"We didn't get the results we wanted this season but we're improving and there's a lot of young talent for us to build on.

Smyth's award adds to a stellar individual season so far after the Narromine Gorillas won the Westfund North Cup.

Smyth will now turn her attention to the Wiradjuri Goannas' Western Women's Rugby League campaign which is expected to be delayed.
