Mrs Hanlon decided to shave her hair in a bid to raise funds for the wig library after her scalp broke out in a rash caused by poor mental health.

She has so far raised more than $1,100.

"I said if I was to ever shave my hair, it would be for a good cause," Mrs Hanlon said. "So, here we are."

Mrs Hanlon moved to Dubbo less than two years ago with her nephew and husband Mark. Ms Dickson, who is also Mrs Hanlon's hairdresser, told her about the wig library in passing and it came at the perfect time given Mrs Hanlon's current struggles with her scalp.

Ms Dickson said this kind of support from generous community members allowed the charity, which was unique to Dubbo, to provide wigs to those struggling from hair loss free of charge.

"The money Deb has raised so far will allow us to buy five to six brand new wigs," Ms Dickson said.

"Each wig is about $250 and lasts two years if it is used. It will also allow us to get some new wig brushes."

The wigs then get donated when they have surpassed their life expectancy.

Ms Dickson said there were many people who experienced hair loss.

"There are many people who suffer from hair loss from cancer patients to those suffering with poor mental health and a number of other conditions as well as some alopecia patients," she said.
