Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred in the state's west yesterday.

About 1.20pm Monday, emergency services were called to the scene of a head-on collision on the Barrier Highway between Nyngan and Cobar.
Police believe a Mazda utility being driven by a 33-year-old man and a Toyota Hilux being driven by a 24-year-old-man, collided in the west-bound lanes.
The younger man died at the scene.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
The 33-year-old sustained minor injuries and was taken to Cobar Hospital for mandatory testing, before being airlifted to Dubbo Hospital for further treatment and observation.
A crime scene was established by officers from Central North Police District, and the Central West Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
