Joel McKellar, 21, pushed the woman on May 8 after she said she wanted to leave his home.
"If you try and go I'll jump all over your head," McKellar told the woman.
In court documents police said McKellar became "jealous", got a metal bar and used it to smash the woman's car headlights and mirrors.
The altercation happened while an apprehended violence order (AVO) was in place and witnesses called police to intervene.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene McKellar got behind the wheel of car and led them on a pursuit with the woman inside the car "forced onto the centre console".
The pursuit only ended when the woman was able to stomp at the brake pedal while pulling the handbrake and using the gear stick to put the car in park.
McKellar pleaded guilty to assault, driving while disqualified, breaching an AVO, damaging property and failing to stop when police pursued him.
In Dubbo Local Court last week Magistrate Lisa Stapleton convicted McKellar and sentenced him to 12-months in jail backdated to when he first entered custody on May 8, with a six-month non-parole period.
McKellar became eligible for parole last Thursday.
