The ACT attorney-general has told his federal counterpart any moves to overturn the capital's new cannabis laws would be of "deep concern".

In a letter to federal Attorney-General Christian Porter, the territory's Gordon Ramsay has said new laws legalising the recreational use of marijuana were the "will of the ACT people".
"I trust that the time and resources of our federal police and courts will not be wasted pursuing individual cannabis users who are acting in accordance with ACT law," Mr Ramsay said.
Last month, the ACT passed laws legalising the recreational use of cannabis, with the new regime allowing residents over 18 to possess up to 50 grams and grow two plants.
Mr Ramsay said in the letter that the ACT government didn't condone the recreational use of cannabis and the laws weren't revolutionary but an important step away from "needless criminalisation".
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said there would be time for the federal government to review the laws, which don't come into effect until January 31.
The territory's Chief Minister Andrew Barr has also addressed concerns raised about the new laws by federal Health Minister Greg Hunt.
Mr Barr said the health risks raised by Mr Hunt already existed for the 8.4 per cent of Canberrans who reported using cannabis in the previous 12 months.
