Dubbo New Year's Eve Fireworks expects huge turnout | Photos

Thousands are expected at the annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks Party at Apex Oval, with police to be on hand to help with traffic flow and crowd control.

They’ll also be proactive across the city’s central business district.

“The police are prepared, well-prepared for deployment on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” Orana Mid-Western Police District Inspector Dan Skelly said.

“Whilst we want everyone to go out and enjoy going out and seeing the old out and the new in, we will not put up with any antisocial behaviour.

“We’ll have a mix of uniformed and undercover police as well as our licencing police and we’re out there to try and ensure that people have a good and safe time.”

He urged anyone planning to drink to have a “plan B”.

New Year’s Eve Party organiser Peter Judd said 6500 people attended last year’s event and he expected similar numbers this year.

Inland Fireworks, Parkes, are again supplying the fireworks.

There will certainly be something for the whole family to enjoy with five car and motorcycle clubs who will be exhibiting on the night, plus the brand new BMW Highway Pursuit cars will be on display.

For the kids, there will be a water skirmish park, sand pits, play areas and carnival rides. 

Everyone will love the various market and food stalls.

“There are more and more visitors from out of town coming,” he said.

“More than half the people who attended last year weren’t from Dubbo.”

He said the event attracted thousands of visitors from across the region “because we have the best fireworks in the central west.”

The event has grown from strength to strength each year and Mr Judd believes that is due to it being so family oriented.

“With lots and lots of activities going on … it’s a really fun, family event,” he said.

“The build-up to it is really good.”

Mr Judd praised the hundreds of volunteers who help with everything from traffic control to manning the gate and cleaning up the site after the party has finished.

“Last year we had over 124 volunteers on the night helping us out. That is a massive amount of volunteer effort,” he said.
