To celebrate members of Hear Our Heart hosted a cocktail party earlier this month at CSC with approximately 75 people attending, which enabled Hear Our Heart to showcase the Mobile Ear Clinic bus.
The bus was generously donated by Terry and Kathy Green of Sainsbury Automotive, and the fit out was done by Alloy Welding.
Hear Our Heart has provided 7000 hearing tests for the Warren, Nyngan, Narromine, Gilgandra, Wellington and Dubbo community.
All children have been followed up, with some children receiving multiple tests. The project currently is providing ongoing follow for approximately 800 children.
Approximately 20 children now wear hearing aids as a result of the program.
With further partnerships being secured our hope is that we can extend the reach of the bus to include more school aged children...
- Priya McDonald
Heear Our Heart media officer Priya McDonald said the Ear Bus has been specifically fitted out to be more acoustic friendly.
“We found that when we were using school classrooms and/or offices that the screen environment wasn't very appropriate for quality hearing testing,” she said.
“We are hoping now that the bus is here that the community will continue to be supportive of the project and bring their enthusiasm for the flexibility and mobility that the bus will now allow us.
“With further partnerships being secured our hope is that we can extend the reach of the bus to include more school aged children across Dubbo and surrounding districts.”
During the launch night it was also announced that Member for Dubbo Troy Grant has nominated our volunteer directors Rachael Mills and Donna Rees for a premiers award.
Hear Our Heart was also presented with $12000 by the Dubbo and District Free Masons.
Ms McDonald said a lot of really exciting things were happening at Hear Our Heart and the launch was a wonderful celebration of how far its come and what the future holds for the Ear Bus Project.
