Bonus-point win to secure finals berth for Dubbo

That is simple on paper but Dubbo captain Shaun McHugh knows doing it on the field is a totally different matter.

Cowra have made a name for themselves this season with one of the most intimidating packs in the competition and McHugh admitted it would be foolish to think Dubbo could overpower the Eagles there.

"The forward pack has just got to compete, we're never going to dominate a Cowra pack but if we can compete and secure some ball we're confident we've got the backs who can finish it," he said, before speaking about the possibility of sealing a finals berth.

"First thing is first we've got to get the win and if we're lucky enough to get the bonus point then we've reached the finals and that was our goal at the start of the season."

Confidence is high in the Roos camp with five wins from their past seven matches while last weekend they ran in 12 tries in an 80-0 demolition of Forbes.

The Roos' attacking prowess may have been to their own detriment though with McHugh admitting it was hard to work on certain plays when players ran through gaps and scored tries so easily.

"After a tough win you can have a cruisey training run but we've worked really hard at training this week," he said.

"While it was good to score some points, we wanted to work on our structure and set-up and it was a bit hard to do that because we kept making linebreaks.

"The structure was there but it was a bit hard to work to our gameplan but everyone is confident, no doubt."

The likes of Filisione Pauta, Hena Tuatea, Moa Kavaefiafi and Jacob Phillips all shone in the backline during that win and McHugh said it again proved how much the Roos had improved in 2015.

Last time they met Cowra the Eagles won by just a single point, 20-19, but McHugh said it would be a much more complete Dubbo team that ran out on to No. 1 Oval on Saturday.

"We're a different side now, no doubt," he said.

"No pack really stood out last time, they just executed a little bit better and their backs were a bit sharper but you can't deny our backs and how sharp they've been lately and our forwards have been dominant at stages this season."

While the action on the field will be as good as any this season, it will also be a special day off the field as the match coincides with the Black Dog Ride.

The ride will be going from from Bathurst to Uluru, with a stop at Dubbo on Saturday.

Players will be wearing special jerseys which will be auctioned after the match while a huge roll up of motorbikes is expected to grace No. 1 Oval during the day.

All money raised on the day would go towards raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention, and with so much happening on the day McHugh said his players would need little motivation.

"There's no big speeches or anything like that, the boys are just keen to play footy and it's a must win for both sides so it should be a really good match," he said.

Kick off between the Roos and Eagles is at 3.15pm on Saturday.
