This is the second time this pre-season game has been played, the first being some five seasons ago when Shane Skinner organised the first pre-season event.
Shane Skinner was a Parkes boy who represented the town in both hockey and cricket.
Shane was born in Parkes on January 7, 1971 and was the second of four boys,
Shane was a natural talent and enjoyed great success in many sports growing up in Parkes.
While at Parkes High School, Shane played NSW CHS Hockey and enjoyed the ultimate success whilst playing Alan Davidson Shield Cricket.
Shane moved to Sydney and joined the Manly Cricket Club (MWDCC).
He proudly represented MWDCC from 1989 to 1997.
After the 97/98 season, Shane moved to England to further his cricketing adventures where he played for Enfield Cricket Club in the north of London.
On returning to Sydney, Shane moved to the Gordon Cricket Club where he opened the bowling for their first XI.
In 2001, Shane married his long time girlfriend Helen Marr and together they moved to Dubbo to start their family.
Through existing friendships, Shane commenced playing cricket for the Souths club, helping them to a premiership in the 2004/2005 season.
Whilst in Dubbo, Shane represented Souths and Newtown cricket clubs before finally finding the place he considered home, the Macquarie Cricket Club.
In his own words, MCC provided Shane with just what his cricketing career needed.
Shane’s cricket reached another level as his love for the game was rejuvenated as he proceeded to lead Macquarie to second place and back to semi-final action.
Sadly, on Monday, October 17, 2011 Shane’s life drew to a close.
As such, the two cricket communities have agreed that the game should be played in his honour.
Therefore teams will be playing for the Shane Skinner Cup.
The game will be played at Woodward Oval commencing at around 11:30am.
After the game, there will be a BBQ held at the Royal Hotel for teams to mingle and talk about the day’s events.
