8.45AM: Did you see the photos of the world leaders cuddling a koala at the G20 Summit in Brisbane over the weekend? They were pretty wide spread on Sunday morning! Now the Australian Koala Foundation is calling on US president Barack Obama to help save this national icon.
Australia Koala Foundation CEO Deborah Tabart OAM has penned a letter to the president in the hope that it will reach his desk and inspire him to help after his close encounter with the Koala ambassador.

FOOTBALL: Interested in becoming a Nyngan Football Coach? The Nyngan Rugby League Football Club have coaching positions available for 2015. The postions include captain coach for first grade, Coach/Captian coach for Reserve Grade and Coach for the Under 18s. RACING: Stewards have ruled Cowra jockey Mathew Cahill has no case to answer after an inquiry into his ride on His Highness in a race on Dubbo Gold Cup Day was concluded on Wednesday.
AWARDS: Nathan D'Esposito was the big winner at the St John's Sport Presentation Assembly, picking up the major award, the Gerard Yeo Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Participation and Contribution to College Sport.
LEAGUE: The Nyngan Tigers' loss has become the Wests Tigers' gain with the news rugby league great Rod 'Rocket' Reddy has left his post at the Group 11 club to take up a role as assistant coach under Jason Taylor in the NRL.

AUSTRALIA DAY: It feels like a long way off, we know, but are you thinking ahead to Australia Day? Nominations for the Australia Day Local Citizen of the Year awards are available for the Bogan Shire. Head along to the council office, library or grab your copy on council’s website. MICROCHIP YOUR PETS: Did you know that all companion animals are to be microchipped at 12 weeks of age or before being sold? If you pet is lost of stolen a microchip is the only way for council to identify the animal and return it to you. Narromine Shire Council is offering half price microchipping during the month of November. Vouchers must be purchased from the Council Customer Service and Payments Centre. The offer is only available to the first 50 customers and customers must be over the age of 18.Call council on 6889 9999 for more details.
NARROMINE GOLF AGM: The Narromine Golf Club AGM will be held tonight from 8pm at the Golf Club.

8.15AM: The festive season has now kicked off at Australia Post with Saturday Post Office opening hours.
The Dubbo Post Office on Talbragar Street is now open from 9am to 12.30pm every Saturday and the post office will also permanently open on Saturdays next year.
Weekend parcel deliveries will also start later this month to help cope with the boom in online shopping Australia Post sees at this time of year in Dubbo.
Australia Post national media and communications manager Michelle Skehan said they were preparing for a big Christmas rush this year.
"We have also launched our new MyPost Deliveries service which allows local residents who might not be home during the day to divert their parcel directly to a post office that is most convenient for them," Ms Skehan said.
"Plus, if you register for this free service before Christmas Eve, we'll send you a free Express Post satchel worth $10.55."
She said the end of the year was always a very busy period.
"We urge everyone to get in early with their Christmas shopping and sending their Christmas greetings."

8AM: Ice has become the 'drug of choice' in Wellington.
Nguuamambiny service group representative Lynn Field said there would be about 'six or eight houses where ice is made here which is bad.'
"People are using ice at a high rate here, there is little doubt. Their behaviour is not rational and families don't know how to put boundaries in place."

NEWCASTLE: There is growing fear among the Hunter’s Muslim community after two people dumped a pig’s head in the grounds of the Newcastle mosque – the second attack at the site in less than a week.
BALLARAT: A Ballarat nurse fighting the ebola crisis in west Africa has condemned the international community for its delayed response.
SOUTH COAST NSW: The woman most recently known for posing for photos starring her backside has come under fire from South Coast locals. Kim Kardashian's epic geography fail came when she posted a photo on her Instagram account of Hole in the Wall Beach near Bristol Point in Jervis Bay with the caption "Sydney".
KATHERINE: Kirsten Engels could well be Katherine’s very own supermum. In addition to her hectic duties as a local police officer and full-time mother to her three children, Mrs Engels can now add champion bodybuilder to her growing list of achievements.
BOMADERRY: A tense five-hour stand-off in Bomaderry ended peacefully when a man has surrendered to police.
GOULBURN: The man who helped make the Big Merino a reality has passed away in Queensland. Atilla Mokany died suddenly at his Buderim home on Monday night, aged sixty-nine.

7.15AM: Taking a look at your local news headlines around the region this morning:
DUBBO: There will be New Year's Eve Fireworks in Dubbo to welcome in 2015. The organisers made an official announcement to the Daily Liberal on Wednesday afternoon. Great news for the region - it will be the first time in over 30 years such an event has been hosted.
DUBBO: Mystery surrounds reports of "pillow cases, sheets, brooms and buckets" being thrown onto the main street of Dubbo in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
DUBBO: Plans for a second birds of prey trial along Macquarie Street in Dubbo are in full flight. Landcare services manager Lynton Auld said the trial had been "clearly successful" as he recommended conducting a second trial to a council committee.
NARROMINE: Dangerous, risky and illegal motorist behaviour around level crossings in the state’s Central West will be targeted in the coming weeks as Transport for NSW and the NSW Police Force continue to crackdown on level crossing safety.
NARROMINE: Two blazes converged into one as the Narromine Shire was ravaged by fire earlier this week. Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service rushed to the scene of the first fire, about 5km from Narromine, on Dandaloo Road. This was soon followed by another blaze in the Tomingley area which amalgamated with the first blaze.
NYNGAN: The brand new Australian Government Mobile Service Centre, Golden Wattle, has hit the road to give people in NSW easy access to essential government payments and services in December. In its first year in operation the Mobile Service Centre will visit Nyngan, Cobar, Brewarrina, Goodooga and Collarenebri to offer Centrelink and Medicare payments and services, Child Support information and hearing health checks.
WELLINGTON: As fire season starts early this year, a new program in the area saw 20 local women embark on a two day course in Wellington.
