The trophy is one of the most honoured at the school and is named after former student Gerard Yeo who was killed during the 2002 Bali bombings.
Gerard's father, Pat, was on hand to present the award and speak of Gerard's efforts at school and sport.
D'Esposito was a worthy winner of the prize after participating in a number of sports during his schooling, making it to the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) Championships this year while also playing soccer and basketball.
The positive influence D'Esposito had on college sport was also noted, as was his attitude towards trying any sport available.
Other major award winners included Sophia Dickerson, Emma Corcoran, Nicholas Cushan and Charles Bible.
Dickerson was presented with the Athletics Award by Barry and Lois Swann.
Former student Kendall Swann passed away as a result of an asthma attack while holidaying on the ski fields and he has been honoured by having the award for outstanding performance and participation in athletics award named for him.
Hockey player Corcoran picked up the Outstanding Achievement by an Individual or Team in College Sport after a stellar year of representative sport.
After making the Diocese and NSW CCC sides Corcoran made the NSW All School team and after impressing at the national titles she gained selection in the Australian under-16s side which will tour Europe next year.
Cushan's effort on the rugby field saw him awarded the Outstanding Contribution to College Rugby prize.
The award caps off an excellent year for Cushan who was again an outstanding player for St John's and also represented the NSW CCC side despite battling a shoulder injury for much of the year.
The Rugby League Player of the Year is named in honour of 'Pop' Fahy and was this year awarded to Bible.
Fahy is a former principle of the college and has dedicated much of his time to rugby league and much like Fahy the award winner must be someone dedicated to the sport and who shows energy and enthusiasm for the game.
Other students who received NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Awards for representing NSW during 2014 were swimmers Lucinda Ferguson and Jack Allen and also golfer Jones Comerford.
Feguson and Allen were also joint winners of the College Swimmers of the Year prize while Brooke Albert picked up the Netballer of the Year and Annie Huggins and Joel Steward were awarded the male and female Soccer Player of the Year respectively.
