Airline FlyPelican reported it cleared its last regulatory hurdle when the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) completed a port inspection on Monday.
With its arrival the city and its region will be serviced by a total of four commercial operators flying direct to six destinations.
FlyPelican will start with a “softer launch” with early morning and evening return services three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
FlyPelican chief Paul Graham said as demand increased the airline would add the same services on Tuesday and Thursday and potentially more.
Mr Graham recently met with key representatives from Western Plains Regional Council, the operator of Dubbo City Regional Airport.
Then-mayor of the former Dubbo City Council Mathew Dickerson welcomed the new service as one that would open up more opportunities for business and family travellers.
Days later the forced merger of the council with Wellington took place, resulting in the formation of Western Plains Regional Council.
Mr Graham said on Tuesday a visit to Dubbo last week that included meeting council representatives had been fruitful.
“We’re confident now with the CASA approval and after our meeting last week with the council, that Western Plains Regional Council will be very proactive in supporting the service,” he said.
Setting up the terminal check-in and training of staff had also taken place during the visit.
CASA’s port inspection had been the last regulatory requirement.
“That was quite a milestone because that’s really the last part of the jigsaw,” Mr Graham said.
The airline began a Mudgee to Sydney route in June 2015.
FlyPelican one-way fares on Newcastle – Dubbo services will start from $99.
Flights can be purchased directly from the FlyPelican website.
