The information meeting will be held on Wednesday February 26 at 6pm in the Macquarie Auditorium of the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
The council’s move came after it was forced to abandon a public meeting last night (Tuesday) because the previous venue could not accommodate the large crowd that turned out, estimated at 250 people.
The unprecedented interest shown at the planned meeting yesterday led to the meeting being rescheduled and the venue changed, a council spokesman said.
South Dubbo residents concerned about their neighbourhoods being rezoned to allow multi-dwelling housing, hostels, hotel or motel accommodation and serviced apartments, residential flat buildings and other uses are expected to flock to the new meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the planning proposal and allow council staff to answer questions to assist interested members of the community to complete a submission on the proposal, the spokesman said.
The closing date for public submissions has been extended to March 28, giving residents an extra month to put their views in writing.
Council has relocated the quarterly mayoral developers forum to be held on Wednesday evening.
The meeting will now be held at the Oxley Room of the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre with a revised start time of 6pm.
The forum is a quarterly update on new and potential development across the city and provides an opportunity to discuss general development matters.
